Michael’s 50th Birthday Commission
This was a special commission to celebrate Michael’s birthday, as well as the reunion of a couple separated by country borders over many months during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic period in 2020. Details were inspired by Michael’s love for Elton John’s music as well as the couple’s wedding rings, and this A3 display piece is a reminder of the time they’ve spent together.
This A4 piece combines two segments: birthday greetings as well as a blessing for the couple to always be together for many more birthdays together.
All the elements were raised at different levels with a variety of textures to allow for depth and shadows to form.
Handpainted details such as the actual design of their wedding rings were added along with a flowing scroll.
A range of details like the gold-edged feathers and elaborate “50th” sunglasses were added as a nod to Michael’s love of Elton John’s music.
